Motoryacht LOON Loves ‘Your Charter Movies’

Arguably the most famous yacht in the world, Motoryacht LOON (formally ‘Icon’ by Icon Yachts) has been through the highs and lows of influencer fame. Most recently trending for their tender crash incident. However, prior to this tear jerking accident we had multiple opportunities to spend time aboard with Captain Paul Clarke and his professional crew to discuss ‘Your Charter Movies’.

This service was designed by Callum Johns (Founder of ORCA MEDIA) after a stint as deckhand onboard yachts ranging from 55-75m. Presenting charter guests with a parting gift (in movie form) is now a very regular and popular occurrence on yachts. The crew take the time to film content during the trip, capturing once in a lifetime memories and produce a short movie memory for them to take home forever. This concept is always a hit with the guests, but who considers the crew? Callum knows first hand that this task means going into hours of rest to meet deadlines, getting distracted from your main duties onboard and other challenges due to trying to go the extra mile. That’s why upon the inception of ORCA MEDIA, Callum decided to help crew by offering ‘Your Charter Movies’ with 3 simple options.

Edit only service:

This service requires the yacht crew to film the content each day and send it to our team for editing. This is the preferred choice for guests that require more privacy and when there is no additional accommodation onboard the yacht. Should the crew deliver the content consistently and at the end of each day Orca Media guarantee video delivery by drop off day.

Onboard service:

This service sees Orca Media’s team members joining the vessel for the duration of the trip and filming + editing to produce a cinematic production by the final night of their trip. Should a yacht have available crew or guest accommodation we can utilise this space to stay onboard with the guests, otherwise we can work out logistics to join them by staying on a chase boat or in various hotels.

A great example of a client that utilised the ‘Onboard service’ was when we provided a charter movie on a 30 day charter with 74m Starburst IV (formally Lady Jorgia and Andrea) and composed a breathtaking film showcasing the entire month around the Mediterranean. This saw the crew gain a larger tip than usual and also maintained the crew’s ability to focus on normal charter duties. So all in all, our service paid for itself!

Induction service:

This service is designed to give you the best of both worlds. We meet the yacht at the location of origin for the charter/boss trip to film some ‘filler’ or ‘b-roll’ footage of the yacht, features onboard and some nice other bits to fill out the video such as sunsets etc with the drone. This adds the professional and cinematic elements that may be missing when filming is left to the crew solely. We would then capture the guests arriving and boarding the yacht. Within our time with you we will also run a little induction with the crew as to preferred camera settings, shots of interest and so on in order to achieve the best results possible. Following this we leave you to embark on your charter and hand the filming over to the crew for us to edit remotely. The benefit of this service is that you are able to mix professional content from us with the ‘real life’ and relatable content captured by your crew, and you maximise the chances of the crew shooting exactly what we need confidently due to the induction process! This also manages accommodation needs and privacy during the charter.

LOON’s crew took the time to keep our brochure on file for future charter guests, as well as comment on the service.

Dylan Mordaunt (Deckhand) stated “This service is just what we need to make sure the boat stays on form and focussed to deliver the best charter experience for the guests. I can definitely see why this will be popular with charter managers, crew and guests”

Christian Tyler (Deckhand) stated “This would save us so much time. The editing always goes into our personal hours and means we are playing catch up. The content creation is a big part of who LOON are, but on top of our normal duties it can be a lot at times. I can imagine bringing the professional elements from a yacht specific marketing company like yours would also improve the final movie for the guests”
